Exciting features

Below are some examples of what sets Mauliola apart from others in her class. More than $6 million has been spent to make her the way she is. Come see her and we'll show you more.

1

The lightest, and by more than 3,000 lbs in most all cases (the sister ship may be an exception), of all of the catamarans in her size and class. (based upon “dry weight).

Plus, Mauliola is, and has proven to be exceptionally strong.

2

More safety features than any of the catamarans in her class. These are material features like, all reefing, furling and foresail tensionning (with the use of RAMS) is done from within the safety and protection of the aft cockpit and at either helmstation. Each of the 2 helmstations have the full complement of electronics providing all the information one needs to be safe in the worst of conditions and at night. And, the design of both helmstations, allow full view of the sails and the horizon.

65 ft. catamaran remote cruising

3

More features to allow and enjoy very remote cruising, much more than any other catamaran in her class. Some examples: dagger boards and rudders can be raised to flush with the bottom providing less than 2’ of draft, allowing the entering of very special places (that others cannot) as well as allowing anchoring nestled in very close to protected places at virtually untouched islets; solar (2100 W) and a hydro-generator + 23kw lithium iron phosphate batteries can power all of its systems; being a supreme passage maker, well capable of upwards of 400 nautical mile days, etc.

4

Better than new. Mauliola is fully tested and has been meticulously maintained since it was finished in New Zealand in 2016. This exceptional Catamaran reflects the care and exacting standards of her one Owner. Build and design faults of new boats, are not in this vessel..

There is a modern, roomy salon with a large center island and spacious countertops, dining table, a settee, and 30cf of refrigeration creating the comfort and luxury of a great room, with added indoor/outdoor function through opened windows to the cockpit dining. Its 4 cabin layout has modern and customized appointments.
This 65' fast carbon fiber catamaran, Morrelli & Melvin design with a priority to both strength and lightness, together with significant R&D and improvements done since launch to now, resulted in:

Morrelli & Melvin Designed

M&M 65' (19.8 m), current design, with all carbon, including the engineering provided for the lightest weight with proven high-strength, together with the reverse bows, 6m dagger boards encased by Veskinite bearings (which can be raised and lowered easily while sailing at good speed), rudders that can be raised to any level, etc.

Sailing Safely

All reefing and foresail furling is done from within the safety of the aft cockpit and at either helmstation. – Includes (2) RAMS, one each for the staysail and reacher tacklines, so that the luff tensions can be safely adjusted from the cockpit, particularly when changing foresails. Notched opening in the Bimini, above the main halyard winch, allows for operation by foot while being able to see, feel and hear everything when raising the mainsail.

Twin Helm Stations

Twin helm stations, with sliding hard covers over each (carbon “garaged” completely with gutters to drains), all allowing for the ideal view of all the sails, and surrounding horizon, leeward bows, the raising and lowering of the daggerboard’s, etc., all from either side, and with the full array of electronics at each one, double wide adjustable seats, etc.

Solar and Hydro Production

2100 W of solar power and, Watt and Sea Hydro generator provide enough power to run all the equipment, including watermakers, hot water kettle, breadmaker, toaster, 16 ft.³ refrigerator, 12 ft.³ freezer + quick freeze freezer, winches and even some HVAC and dive tank filling from our own Brownie electrical compressor (all working from the batteries).

Dorades — Unique Fresh Air Source

Dorades’ for all 4 cabins and the salon with powered low amp draw fan, mosquito (or "no no") screened, most often negating the need for air conditioning.

Daggerboards

Carbon daggerboards with Vesconite bearings (with more freedom to raise and lower safely) to any level including flush with the bottom. Designed and built unique “daggerboard pole” system to be able to completely remove and reinstall the daggerboards directly in line with their outward and raked slope, without need of shore or other outside assistance.

Exceptional Refrigeration Capacity

16 ft.³ fridge and 12 ft.³ freezer, each with drawers to maximize utility, to secure good airflow and, with the faces made of carbon, VIP insulating airbags and secure latches on the outside to not impact the insulation. Special airflow system to substantially improve the capabilities of the compressors. An additional small but more powerful freezer (per cubic foot) is used to more quickly freeze fresh caught fish and other foods, preparatory to putting them into the salon freezer.

Water Catchment

Salon roof designed with gutters for water catchment that goes direct to water tanks (when desired).

Better Than New

The yacht has been strengthened and reinforced so that she can withstand all the rigors and demands placed on her. All of those exasperating, new design/build faults and weaknesses have been thoroughly sought, discovered and not only fixed, but in most cases substantially upgraded and improved.
Added and improved deck hardware for strength and reliability as well as to better facilitate use of all winches, including to be able to see directly what is going on with any activity. Running rigging, including lines, clutches/jammers, organizers, etc. significantly upgraded in strength and function. Carbon jammers at the aft end of the boom for the clew reef lines, have been uniquely configured so as to set automatically and properly, and operated from the safety of aft cockpit. Steering cars and fasteners upgraded and improved for reliability. A very detailed preventive maintenance schedule for all the equipment is kept updated.

Electrcial and Electronic Remote Display

Mastervolt electrical and electronics information is made available to an iPad through an onboard routing system. For example – both battery bank’s current, volts, and fullness, together with any desired wind, boat speed/direction, etc. information is available anywhere on the boat.

Forward Bows Storage

Special removable access panels into the forward bows from each forward cabin, facilitates bringing extra long standup boards and other long objects inside and out of the way for crossings. Panels are secured from inside the bows and with rubber seals so the bows remain a secondary crash box.

Batteries

New 23Kw lithium iron phosphate batteries (not lithium ion), with 24V/960A capacity.

Special Lazy Jack System

Special Lazy Jack system which reduces problems and risks of raising the full batten and square topped mainsail.

Unique Access For Maintenance

Good access has been created for all equipment, engine, plumbing, etc, to provide ease, and therefore better maintenance procedures.

Safe and Easy Swim Ladder System

Garaged swim ladders located at each transom swim step can be opened or closed from above or in the water.

Dinghy Safety

Dinghy davits which are horizontal allows the dinghy to be pulled up tight.

Outdoor Sink

An outdoor sink is in the outdoor cockpit, near the barbecue, which has hot and cold fresh water, salt water as well as a foot pump if electricity were to be lost.

Sails

Very strong, light and beautifully shaped North Sails 3di square topped mainsail, jib, and reacher.

Special Rudder Well

Special Rudder well “Swisher Plate” system, with Venturi’s removing water when under way, to allow the full water line length of the vessel to be used (not having the Stern cut out).

Easy Anchor Chain Storage

Anchor chain locker designed so that even though the chain is 7/16” and is 83 m long, it doesn’t have to be flaked as it stacks nicely and easily without coming even close to the windlass.

Winches

3 speed self tailing winches (Harken) available at each helm position, providing the ability for very rapid furling and other applications.

Shallow Water Access

Engine driveshafts exit the inboard side to allow for only about 25 inches (64 cm) of draft (with daggerboards and rudders raised).

Inverters

(2) 4000 W inverters (so if one goes we still have another one).

Removable Helmstation Protection

Removable and well-designed “Dodger” for each of the helmstations, to further protect the cockpit and helmstations – when desired.

Board Racks

Carbon board racks which allow securing surfboards, etc. easily, with a small trampoline built between the davits and, accessing the dinghy when up.

Spectra 400 System

(2) New Spectra 400 (Min 16 gal/hr each) with several special maintenance and usage features, for example, when flushed with fresh water, the filters and membrane are treated such that no growth occurs for 30 days.

Reliable Tensioning

Turnbuckles on whisker stays facilitates easily keeping them properly tightened (a too easy to underestimate the importance of these kinds of things for stressed conditions). These stays connect to a titanium bar (inside the crossbar) instead of the stainless bar (eliminating rust factor there).

Handmade Acetal Use

UV resistent black acetal added where sliding (such as door and sliders) and to the sides of the anchoring chain plates – to greatly reduce wear, plus for refrigeration drawer latches, etc.

15" Displays at Each Helm Station

The 15” Nauticomp displays at each helmstation receive all the information from the Furuno (“Black box”) chart plotter, as well as that from MaxSea and Open CPN – switching from one to another is done by a simple push of a button at a helmstation or at the nav station.

Safety Switch

Master electrical on/off switch easily accessible for safety.
